Fall 2010 Return To Babylon European Tour(posted 2.22.11)
Opening in the beautiful fjord city of Bergen, Norway(birthplace of black metal), this latest tour brought onto the stage three massive video screens displaying many of the group's videos from over its long career. In 45 shows, they traveled as far south as Athens, Greece, into a rare November blizzard in Dublin, Ireland, along the Arctic Circle in Oulu, Finland, through Poland, Germany Spain, and many other countries before wrapping up in iced-over Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia. Several shows fell victim to promotion/promoter issues, but again attendance was extremely high in all markets. Douglas debuted a second in his series of Blade Les Paul guitars, an overhauled model(previously flamed amber) sporting a gold blade on a figured blood red body(it can be seen here). Unfortunately, it got cracked in half by airline baggage handlers en route to Russia... Brazil's Shadowside had a bit of bad luck but kicked ass every night they could support!
Some highlights of the road were an unexpected free evening in Dresden, Germany coinciding with an excellent nearby Apocalyptica show, and early-winter landscapes in Warsaw and Crakow, Poland. A bit of fan-filmed footage can be seen here.
